Stronger Gums for Stronger Teeth

Gums support and shield our teeth from several severe oral health diseases. Gums act as a strong foundation for our teeth. When the gums aren’t healthy, the risk of developing overall oral health gradually increases. Gum Treatment in Pune are done to save and heal the gums that are badly infected.

Dr. Aakash Shah of Jehangir Oracare Dental Centre (Leading Dental Clinic in Pune) says that today’s diet of processed food puts us at a great risk of gum diseases. The onset of gum diseases start with deposition of a film of bacteria called as plaque on the surface of teeth. If not treated at an early stage, this might result inperiodontitis and eventually tooth loss and other health problems. Plaque forms on the teeth and gums surface every day. If the harmful bacteria in the plaque accumulate in excess, then it results in formation of tartar (calculus) which often destroys bone and connective tissue of your teeth. This can only be removed by a professional dentist.

There are two stages of Gum Disease:
  • Gingivitis
  • Periodontitis

Gingivitis – The inflammation and infection of gums is called as gingivitis. Gingivitis begins with increasing bacteria in plaque leading to bleeding and inflammation of gums while brushing.

Periodontitis – Gingivitis if not treated can advance to periodontitis. The harmful bacteria attack the gum line resulting in infection. Teeth loosens and become more spaced which cause more bacteria to grow.
